Nancy Pelosi’s Faux Outrage
Politicians acting “rebellious” for 15 seconds means nothing when not backed up by legislative action.
At the end of Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union speech, Nancy Pelosi ripped up the finalized copy of Trump’s speech. She then tossed it aside from her while looking annoyed. You would have thought this woman gave Trump two middle fingers while screaming “LOCK HIM UP” in the middle of his speech by the reaction everyone had.
The reaction was similar to the praise she received from Democrats and liberals for her “sarcastic” clapping at Trump’s 2019 State of the Union address.

I wouldn’t have a problem with these displays of distaste towards Trump if they felt like more than “memable” moments.
She ripped up a speech- big woop.
She clapped in a weird way. Okay.
White “liberal” politicians have to do the absolute bare minimum to be seen as “owning” Trump.
Are we forgetting Pelosi’s voting record?
A bipartisan, $738 billion military budget deal negotiated between Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin was given the green light in mid-2019. Meaning that means the military gets $738 billion, while…everything else gets $632 billion combined.
Here’s what that looks like:
Education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, social security, science, housing- all of it- gets kicked to the curb so America can play War hawk. This passed 67–28 in the Senate and 284–149 in the House, with only sixteen Democrats opposing it. THIS is what Nancy Pelosi approved of.
She also voted to extend the Patriot Act by hiding it in with a must-pass funding bill, which ultimately passed 231–192. The Patriot Act was initially passed to stop terrorism but has since been used to spy on American citizens without due process. Here are a few ‘features’ of the Patriot Act:
- allows law enforcement to use surveillance and wiretapping to investigate terror-related crimes
- allows delayed notification search warrants to prevent a terrorist from learning they are a suspect
- allows search warrants to be obtained in any district where terror-related activity occurs, no matter where the warrant is executed
- ending the statute of limitations for certain terror-related crimes
- making it harder for aliens involved in terrorist activities to enter the United States
Only 10 democrats voted against the resolution to extend the act.
What is the point of publicly opposing Trump when you’re voting with him and the Republican party on critical pieces of legislation that will effect millions of people?
Eye-rolling is for teenagers reacting to being told they can’t go to a party- not when you’re trying to combat the racist, sexist, xenophobic President of the United States and his administration.
Slow or sarcastic clapping is for villains in movies before they start diving into the details- not when you’re trying to combat the racist, sexist, xenophobic President of the United States and his administration.
If she really wanted to change things, she wouldn’t be legislatively enabling Trump and his administration to further the damage they’ve done to the American people and to innocents all around the world. She could have staged a mass walk-out, she could not have shown up, or she could have just straight up interrupted.
But no.
She sat there and let him spout lies and divisive rhetoric for an hour and a half, so excuse me if I’m not saying “YAS QUEEN” at her ripping up pieces of paper.
